Freedom II's 2022 upgrade project
As 2022 fastly approaches, next years goals are already getting underway!!
The Freedom II is a great program for the Disabled Veteran Community and We will in 2022 focus on it with a laundry list of improvements and maintenance.
PHASE 1- So Far on the underway are:
1)Building a ADA accessible head(bathroom) on the "main deck" level. 90% COMPLETE
Reason: the addition of a new bathroom upstairs is to provide mobility challenged passengers an accessible facility.
2)Coverting the downstairs head(bathroom) door to open out instead of in COMPLETE
Reason: this bathroom currently opens in and is a pretty tight squeeze around the door cabinets, the door opening out is much better.
3)Creating a rod locker and fishing equipment storage in the bow berth.
Reason: Fishing rods and equipment need an area to be secure and dry. This will provide for better maintanence resulting in better performance of the equipment. Security of the equipment is also most important due to the hard work of our volunteers and generosity of donors to intially aquire it.
4)Stenciling the vessel with the MBV logos and finishing the name/brandingCOMPLETE
Reason: Our greatest method to increase participants in our programs is to be highly visible when we are out fishing or traveling along our coastline in and out of ports.
PHASE 2.25 scheduled to be started before the end of 2022
Designing and installing a lift system for wheel chairs to the main deck from the dock.
Setup a camera system to monitor the passengers on the boat NEED EXPERT INPUT contact jeff@mbv.org
Necessary maintenance:
Refinishing the handrails and the wood around the vessel.
Replacing the stratoglass around the fly-bridge with lexan sheets
2022 and beyond
My goal as Executive Director is to create the best fishing platform in the Monterey Bay to be used exclusively by those that have provided our freedom, OUR MILITARY VETERANS! The Freedom II is an amazing vessel with great potential. I will be reaching out for corporate and private sponsors to help MBV reach this goal.
Currently I have reached out to: Bass Pro Shops, Garmin, Cannon downriggers
(As i receive their responses i will publish them in a link on the bottom of this page...if you have other companies or contacts...please email me... Jefferson@mbv.org)
My "wish list":
2 Live wells...one on the front and one in the cockpit... live bait improves catch and size of catch
All new rods and reels(24-30series w/levelwind and 12-bait rods)...we need a fresh start.. all of our existing equipment is in various working condition
24 rod holders (Rail Mount)
6 downriggers for better catch rates during Salmon and Halibut season. We can troll on rough ocean days.
Update the fishfinders and navigation electronics
Small Bait freezer
trolling gear( flashers, hoochies, apex's, 12lbs balls)
16' nets and 16' gaffs
